Panchaleshwar Temple


The district of Pune is famous for its various ancient temples and Panchaleshwar temple is among one of them. This sacred Hindu worship place is considered among the oldest Shiva temples in the state of Maharashtra. The temple is constructed in style that matches to grander rock worship places of famous Ellora. According to legend the temple was constructed in a single night by Devas or angels. Moreover, the major attraction of the temple is a giant statue of king Shivaji situated close to the temple.

The present Panchaleshwar temple was constructed by the great Maratha king called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja. However, according to local folklore, the temple was constructed thousands years ago and Shivaji only renovated the temple. As per the popular legend, this sacred worship place was constructed by angels in a one night. The temple is also famous for its architecture that displays the Maratha style of architecture. However, some historians consider it as resembles of Ellora temples. It is made of rocks. The main festival which is highly celebrated here is called Mahashivratri, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva., hence, during the festival, pilgrims from all over the country gather here to participate in religious activities held in the temple.
Weather and time to visit

The renowned Panchaleshwar temple can be visited throughout the year due to favorable climate condition. However, the best time to get there is from the month of February to March. Moreover, visitor or pilgrims can also visit during the Mahashivratri festival to have darshan and blessings of God.
