Matheran is a truly unique resort – it is a complete “no-car zone” and walking or riding are the only means of exploring this hill station. Visitors need to
park at nearby Neral and get aboard the “toy train” which makes a two hour picturesque journey to Matheran, through hills, undulating countryside and
forests. Stone villas, graveyards and churches resonate with the sounds of the British era while the lake, with its numerous vantage points is an excellent
place to just relax and watch the world go by. For those with a penchant for exercise, try the numerous walking trails that criss - cross the Western Ghats,
covered by a dense canopy of trees.
