Mrutyunjayeshwar Temple

Mrutyunjayeshwar Mandir (Temple) belonged to Sardar Haripant Phadke who was a nobleman in the royal court of the Peshwas. Later he donated this property to the Peshwas as a part of the dowry.
The beautiful Shiva Linga in the sanctum of the temple is the main attraction here. Devotees believe that this entire area is hallowed by the presence of Lord Shiva who really resides in the Linga. Priests worship the Linga every day early in the morning. They decorate it with pretty flowers, garlands and fresh Bel leaves. The burning lamp, the pot of milk hanging over the Linga with milk continuously dripping out of it on the Shiva Linga, fragrance of the flowers and that of the burning incense sticks together add to the sanctity and solemnity in the sanctum.
The beautiful garden around the temple is yet another turn on. Special efforts are taken by the temple trust so that the garden continues to bloom and blossom briskly.
The temple is always crowded with the devotees. According to the Shivapurana, worshipping Lord Shiva on Monday in the month of Shravan brings good luck and so on Mondays in Shravan, you find here oodles of devotees of Lord Shiva standing in queue to take the darshana. The premises of the temple are reverberated with the chanting of the mantras and singing of the hymns and bhajans.
The Mrutyunjayeshwar Temple Trust has constructed an open air auditorium where kirtans, religious sermons and cultural programmes are organized frequently.
All in all, the temple is one of the solemn spiritual centres in the city.
