Tribal Museum is located at Pune in Maharashtra. It is near the railway line, which is just east to the railway station. Maharashtra is a vast state and there are a number of tribals in this state. Having different languages, these tribes have their own food habits, taboos, and beliefs - in short distinct cultures.
Tribal Museum exhibits the cultures of the tribal communities belonging mainly to the Sahyadari and Gondwana regions. It is a place where one can find to get an insight into the lives of the tribal communities of Maharashtra.
Dedicated to the tribal communities of the state of Maharashtra, the museum showcases collection of items like pictures and artefacts, which depict the life as well as customs of the tribal people. Images of deities, musical instruments used by tribes, handicrafts made by tribes, wash paintings and many other items related to the tribal life and culture of Marai, Bahiram, Wagdheo and Danteswari tribes are also housed in the museum.
It was established with the aim of preserving different aspects of the tribal culture for the future generations. In the museum are housed textile and jewellery items, arms and armoury, and handicrafts. Collections of the museum also include articles finding their way in the daily use of the tribal communities like ornaments, musical instruments, clothes, utensils, weapons and others.
